Internationally recognised as a leading specialist in ballet and dance conducting, Manuel Coves has collaborated with some of the world’s foremost ballet companies and opera houses. His recent and upcoming engagements include productions such as Carmen (Johan Inger) at Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Serenade with Compañía Nacional de Danza, Medea with Ballet Nacional de España, and major ballet titles including Coppélia, The Rite of Spring, The Firebird and La Argentina with Antonio Najarro’s Ballet.
His career highlights feature performances with Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Víctor Ullate Ballet, Ballet Nacional del Sodre, and appearances at leading international stages such as Semperoper Dresden, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, English National Ballet, Aterballetto and Compañía Nacional de Danza, conducting works by choreographers including Inger, Duato, Balanchine, Ratmansky and the Bubeníček brothers.
Alongside his extensive ballet repertoire, Manuel Coves maintains a broad operatic profile, encompassing works from Don Carlo, Falstaff and Otello to Carmen, Candide and contemporary operas, performed at institutions such as Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Colón and Palau de les Arts. He is also widely regarded as a leading authority on Zarzuela (La Malquerida, El Caserío, La Verbena de la Paloma, El barbero de Sevilla, La Revoltosa, Enseñanza libre/La gatita blanca, Entre Sevilla y Triana, La del manojo de rosas, La tabernera del puerto, El Barberillo de Lavapiés, Amadeu, Quo Vadis & Plus Ultra, Luisa Fernanda, La Chulapona or Viva Madrid) and this has brought him to conduct at Teatro Mayor in Bogotá, Oman’s Royal Opera House, Teatro de La Zarzuela, Teatros del Canal, Pamplona, Bilbao and Oviedo’s Opera Houses.
