Recent performances include Romeo & Juliet with Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève; The Merry Widow (R. Hynd), Giselle, La Bayadère (Galizzi), Don Quijote (Bazilis/Candal) and Le Corsaire (A. M. Holmes) at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; Carmen with Víctor Ullate Ballet; El Amor Brujo with La Fura dels Baus; The Messiah (M. Wainrot) with Ballet Nacional del Sodre; Carmen (ballet) at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma; and the Ballet Gala for the 100th Anniversary of Teatro Colón. As a leading specialist in ballet and dance conducting, he has appeared on major international stages including Semperoper Dresden (Carmen, J. Inger), Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, English National Ballet, Aterballetto (Don Juan, J. Inger), and Compañía Nacional de Danza, conducting works by Inger, Duato, Balanchine, Ratmansky, Bubeníček and others.
His operatic repertoire includes Don Carlo, Falstaff, Otello, Rigoletto, La Bohème, Tosca, La Sonnambula, Don Pasquale, Carmen, Orfeo ed Euridice, Pepita Jiménez, Candide, Die Dreigroschenoper, as well as contemporary operas such as El pintor (J. J. Colomer) and El caballero de la triste figura (T. Marco), performed at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Palau de les Arts Valencia and Teatros del Canal.
Manuel Coves is widely regarded as a leading authority on Zarzuela. His repertoire includes La Verbena de la Paloma, La Revoltosa, Luisa Fernanda, El Caserío, La Malquerida, Entre Sevilla y Triana, Viva Madrid and others, leading to invitations from Teatro de la Zarzuela, Teatro Mayor Bogotá, Royal Opera House Muscat, and opera houses in Pamplona, Bilbao and Oviedo.
He has collaborated with orchestras such as Staatskapelle Dresden, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Tonkünstler-Orchester, Milan Symphony Orchestra “LaVerdi”, Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, and nearly all major Spanish orchestras.
His recordings include chamber music by Rodolfo Halffter for Naxos, La Verbena de la Paloma for Decca, and the complete Guitar Concertos by Federico Moreno Torroba with guitarists Pepe Romero and Vicente Coves.
