Mezzo soprano Aigul Akhmetshina’s debut album, Aigul, has not only captivated critics but also achieved remarkable commercial success. Shortly after its release, the album charted at No. 2 on the Apple Classics Chart and reached the No. 1 spot on the UK Classical Charts, cementing her status as a rising star in the world of classical music. Adding to these accolades, Aigul has been nominated for the prestigious International Opera Awards in the category of Recording (Solo Recital).

Reviewers from prominent publications have universally praised Akhmetshina’s vocal abilities. The Guardian lauds the sheer power and expressiveness of her voice, stating, “The most arresting thing, though, is her voice. It’s glowingly expansive in Charlotte’s soliloquy from Massenet’s Werther, poised and electric as Rossini’s caged Rosina, entreating and then swaggering as Bellini’s Romeo, with big high notes any soprano would be proud of.”

The Financial Times emphasized that her debut recital album is centered around her magnificent instrument: “This, her first recital recording, is all about voice, voice, voice.” With a focus on both classical standards and more unexpected repertoire, Aigul is a showcase for the richness and versatility of Akhmetshina’s artistry.

Opera Wire further highlighted her technical command and luxurious sound, calling her voice “an astounding instrument: rich of tone, knitted perfectly between registers, colored evenly from top to bottom unless she decides to vary its hue, and capable of impressively precise coloratura. It is a Rolls Royce of mezzos – opulent and luxurious.”

In a detailed analysis of her artistry, Presto Music noted how distinct and unique Akhmetshina’s sound is, particularly crediting her upbringing for her singular style: “Her wide-ranging mezzo is beautifully integrated and secure from top to bottom, with a ringing top B at the close of this scene and a distinctive coppery lower register which never sounds artificially darkened or pressurised. Akhmetshina simply doesn’t sound like anybody else.”

Aigul offers a carefully curated selection of arias that display the mezzo’s dynamic presence and remarkable versatility. MusicWeb International was struck by her control and rich timbre, praising her “fast flickering vibrato, a deep, vibrant tone, resonant lower register, huge top notes – very ‘true contralto’ in timbre – beautifully controlled portamenti.”

Aigul Akhmetshina’s debut album is not just a vocal showcase but a statement of her place in the world of opera, demonstrating that her artistry and passion will carry her far in her blossoming career. As she continues to make headlines, Aigul stands as a testament to her talent, leaving us excited for what’s to come next from this rising star.
