Wexford Festival Opera - L’oracolo & Mala Vita - San-Lui / Vito

The sweet heft of Escobar’s tenor was as impressive as his acting, both here and in Giordano's opera. There was a nobility and depth to Leon Kim's Uin-Scî and, despite his final bloodthirsty incisions, he moved us in his grief.

- Bachtrack, Andrew LarkinRead the article

Escobar was able to tap all the warm lyricism of his tenor and did his best to make Vito’s lurches from fervent prayer to ardent romance convincing, as he switched from devout consumptive to devious charmer in the blink of an eye.

- Opera TodayRead the article

The star is the Spanish tenor Sergio Escobar as the murdered San-Lui in L’oracolo and Vito in Mala vita. His effortless lyricism was of a kind not heard here since the young Joseph Calleja in the early 2000s, but Escobar is already a polished artist, phrasing beautifully up to climactic high notes.
