Migran Agadzhanyan


Biography highlights

Migran Agadzhanyan, born in 1992 in a family of musicians, had his first music awards as a pianist and singer in his early childhood. He studied piano at the Rostov music school and took his first vocal training with the well-known Belarus tenor Vladimir Eknadiosov.


A versatile musician, Migran is the founder and principal conductor of the Saint Petersburg Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has composed his own works, including the Armenian Ballade for Piano and Orchestra, and has successfully stepped in as stage director in various productions. Apart from studying at the piano and conducting departments of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Migran feels mostly fascinated by the opera stage and conducting.


Saint Petersburg Youth Symphony Orchestra founded in 2012 includes 90 musicians. Directed and conducted by Migran, the orchestra lives its full life and gives about 60 performances per season at the leading concert venues of Russia and Europe. The orchestra’s recent tour abroad was a concert at the Berlin Konzerthaus with The Symphony No. 14 of Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky's Serenade. 


Migran Agadzhanyan was awarded the Grand Prix in the 2013 All-Russian Conducting Competition. He mastered his skills with Colin Metters and Alexander Polyanichko.


2016 graduated from the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory he has a chance to conduct Rostov Academic Symphony Orchestra, Vyatka Philharmonic Orchestra, The orchestra of the State Hermitage, St. Petersburg's Academic Orchestra and Berlin Youth Symphony Orchestra.


His conducting repertoire includes all symphonies of Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, Symphony No. 5, 7,10 and 14 of Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Pictures at an Exhibition of Mussorgsky and Ravel, Rachmaninov's symphonic dances, symphonies of Haydn, Mozart, Brahms, Schumann, Mahler, Bruckner, Rachmaninoff,  Prokofiev, Khachaturian among others.


Among his operatic repertoire are Mozart's Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Così fan tutte, Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and Lucia di Lammermoor, Bellini's Norma, Verdi's Rigoletto, Don Carlos, Nabucco, Les vêpres siciliennes, Simon Boccanegra, Un ballo in maschera, La forza del destino, Aida, Otello, Puccini's Tosca, Gianni Schicchi, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Manon Lescaut, Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur, Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana, Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, Bizet’s Carmen and others.
