Biography highlights

Ivo Meinen is the recipient of the prestigious 2007 Kersjes Prize for conducting and the prizewinner of the 2015 Blue Danube International Opera Conducting Competition in Bulgaria.

 

Already during his studies, he assisted Ed Spanjaard and later on he has worked alongside Antony Hermus, Richard Egarr, Otto Tausk, Klaas Stok, Paolo Carignani.

 

His operatic repertoire comprises the Dutch premiere of Rossini's La pietra del paragone (Opera Trionfo), Don Pasquale (Nootsprong), Guillaume Tell, Le nozze di Figaro in a production of the Dutch National Opera Academy as well as the Dutch premiere of Othmar Schoeck's Vom Fischer und seiner Frau with Opera op Zak, Amsterdam, Gianni Schicchi with the International Belcanto Academy, Carmen at the State Opera Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, and Tosca (Ruse State Opera, Bulgaria).

 

He has conducted Bach's St. John Passion at the Nederlandse Reisopera, Anton Bruckner's Symphony No.4 with the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest, concert series with mezzo-soprano Tania Kross and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Steve Reich's Proverb at the NJO Summer Academy, and has also led Amsterdam Conservatory Orchestra, Bergische Symphoniker, and Bochumer Symphoniker among others.

 

Among his recent and upcoming projects are re-invitations by the State Opera Stara Zagora, his debut at Opera Ostrava, Czech Republic, and concerts with De Bezetting Spelt and Amstel Strijkers Ensemble.

 

Ivo Meinen graduated from the conservatories of Amsterdam, The Hague (violin, Lex Korff de Gidts, Herman Krebbers), Maastricht, Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen (orchestral conducting, Jan Stulen, Enrico Delamboye, David de Villiers) and took master classes by Carlo Jens with the Riga Chamber Orchestra, and Valery Gergiev with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra during the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam.
