Jennifer Davis' current engagements include debuts as Elsa in Lohengrin, Gretel Hansel und Gretel for the Royal Opera House, return to the Wexford Festival Opera as Violetta in Il bravo and debut as Donna Anna in Alessandro Talevi's production of Don Giovanni for Opera North.

 

She has a busy series of engagements in the upcoming seasons including house debuts at the San Francisco Opera, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera.

 


OPERATIC ENGAGEMENTS

 

She joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House in September 2015. While there she performed Ifigenia in Oreste, Arbate in Mitridate, re di Ponto, Nursing Sister in Suor Angelica and Ines in Il trovatore at the Royal Opera House, Second Grace/Second Fate in Orpheus  at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Shakespeare's Globe, the world premiere of 4.48 Psychosis at the Lyric Hammersmith, Elisabeth in Les enfants terribles for The Royal Ballet and a double bill including Gorecki's Third Symphony and Woolf Works to a score by Max Richter.

 

For the Royal Opera House, Jennifer has also performed Adina in L’elisir d’amore, and Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte. 

 

Elsewhere she appeared as Adina in L'elisir d'amore and Agata in Antonio Cagnoni's Don Bucefalo for Wexford Festival Opera, Lenka Svadba for Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix en Provence. High Priestess in Aida for Lyric Opera Productions, Governess in The Turn of the Screw for DIT, Eurydice for The Junction Festival in Ireland, Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia for Irish Youth Opera, Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro for Lyric Opera Productions.

Few things in theatre are more exciting than watching a star being born, and the big-bang roar that greeted Jennifer Davis’s curtain call after her debut as Lohengrin’s beloved Elsa was one such magic moment. Little known – I had registered her name, but not her talent – Davis had been promoted from understudy at short notice when Kristine Opolais withdrew, and she confounded all the sceptics.....from her first aria – a test of control over pitch and tone – she was rock-steady and generous of phrase. In the title role, Angela Simkin drew us in with her rich, clear mezzo; she, along with Jennifer Davis as Ifigenia, had subtlety in her sound, layers of humanity that set the long-lost siblings apart as (ironically) the sanest characters of the story. Simkin's Oreste sang with plaintive wails and fiery coloratura, and Davis' control over her instrument showed us a three-dimensional Ifigenia, resisting her horrific circumstances.

"From Wexford, I took the train up to Dublin for a few days. While there, I heard an excellent recital at the National Concert Hall by Irish Soprano JENNIFER DAVIS. In Wexford, Davis had walked off with top vocal honours in the mainstage presentation of Cagnoni's Don Bucefalo. In Dublin, after a slow start with Alcina's "Tornami a vagheggiar", she sang with consistently lovely and unforced tone and exhibited a persuasive point of view about nearly everything on the program. She was especially accomplished in her Liszt accomplished and Strauss songs, highlighted by a charming "Die Lorelei" and a very moving "Morgen". Davis is just twenty-eight, but she shows surprising artistic maturity, and I would peg her as someone to watch. She was superbly partnered at the piano by AOIFE O'SULLIVAN."
