Musically, it was top class, as often happens in Malmö. The baritone Fredrik Zetterström, who likes to perform on this stage, is better than ever. He is worth a visit. Here he has an equal Polish soprano, Ania Jeruc, and ditto Norwegian tenor, Bror Magnus Tødenes, who delivers bel canto at the highest level.
Bror Magnus Tødenes (Carlo) is an agile tenor with an almost ideal bel canto sound. He articulated his figurations accurately and used his light, sometimes sobbing approach as a stylistically confident and nuanced means of expression. Despite his long, demanding passages, his voice showed no sign of fatigue and his playing was committed throughout. Like Ania Jeruc, he is also able to perform high passages while crouching or lying down without any loss of sound
Norwegian tenor Bror Magnus Tødenes impresses with power and depth as King Charles, who must juggle both war and love.
