The Wiener Staatsoper has just announced its line-up for the 2023-2024 season, and it's set to be a stellar year. Many talented TACT artists will be taking the stage, performing in various productions, from premieres to revivals.
The season kicks off with a production of Giacomo Puccini's “Il Trittico,” which will feature mezzo-soprano Daria Sushkova in “Suor Angelica”. The performances will run from October to February. In October and November bass Evgeny Solodovnikov will sing in "Manon Lescaut".
Soprano Maria Nazarova will take on the role of Amanda in Ligeti's “Le Grand Macabre”, running throughout November. She will also perform in revivals of “La Bohème” in November and “Guillaume Tell” in March.
Tenor Norbert Ernst will star as Pang in a new production of “Turandot” from December to June 2024. And in February 2024, Gennady Bezzubenkov, Michael Gniffke, Andrei Popov, Karl Laquit, Elena Vassileva, and Karl Laquit, among others, will star in Damiano Michieletto's production of “Animal Farm”.
There will also be several exciting revivals, with bass Adam Palka appearing in three operas this season. In February, he will sing Don Basilio in Rossini's “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”; in March, he will take on the role of Vodník in Dvorak's “Rusalka”; and in May, he will play Mephistopheles in Gounod's “Faust.”
In March, Tchaikovsky's “Eugene Onegin” will run with Boris Pinkhasovich, Daria Sushkova and Ilia Kazakov. Soprano Caroline Wettergreen will star in Thomas Adès' “The Tempest” in May 2024.
