Bayerische Staatsoper is set to open its new production of Sergei Prokofiev's War and Peace on March 5th directed by Dmitry Tchernyakov. The opera based on Leo Tolstoy's classic novel of the same name tells the story of the Napoleonic Wars in Russia through the eyes of several aristocratic families. Prokofiev’s masterpiece is widely considered one of the greatest operas of the 20th century.
The all-star cast includes bass Alexei Botnarciuc, who will be making his house and role debut in the role of Leutnant Dolochow, mezzo Oksana Volkova, bass Roman Chabaranok, baritone Stanislav Kuflyuk, tenor Maxim Paster and tenor Granit Musliu.
Bayerische Staatsoper’s general music director Vladimir Jurowski leads the production with Liuba Orfenova contributing as the Language Coach and TACT’s Ran Arthur Braun Choreographing.
With such a talented cast and director, the new production of War and Peace is expected to be one of the highlights of the Bayerische Staatsoper's season. Opera fans from around the world are sure to flock to Munich to witness this exciting new interpretation of Prokofiev's masterpiece.
