We are excited to welcome Australian-born bass-baritone Derek Welton to TACT's roster for General Management!

Described as ‘mightily imposing‘ and ‘noble sounding', he is a noted interpreter of Wagner's music and one of the leading voices of his generation.

A versatile artist, Welton's broad range of repertoire encompasses a wide variety of roles ranging from Figaro, Il Conte, Don Giovanni, through Pandolfe, Don Pizarro to Orest, Wanderer and Wotan.


He has performed at some of the most prestigious opera houses and festivals including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Opéra de Lyon, the Salzburg Festival, Salzburg Easter Festival, Bayreuth Festival, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Glyndebourne Festival.

His current & recent engagements include returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Pförtner in Das Wunder der Heliane, Klingsor Parsifal with Wiener Staatsoper, Amfortas in the new production of Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival and König in Der Schatzgräber with Opéra National du Rhin, Pangloss in Candide with Opéra de Lyon, Orest Elektra with Victorian Opera, as well as role débuts as Amfortas Parsifal with the Orquesta de Extremadura, Wotan in extracts of Die Walküre with Orchestre National de Lille, Der Wanderer in Act 3 of Siegfried with Sinfonieorchester Basel and as König Marke in Act 2 of Tristan und Isolde with Düsseldorfer Symphoniker.
