TACT is delighted to welcome conductor Azim Karimov to its roster for General Management.
Since the 22/23 season, Azim Karimov has held the position of conductor and musical assistant of the General Music Director at Bayerische Staatsoper, solidifying his presence in the renowned opera house. In the 23/24 season, he will work as an Assistant Conductor in such operas as “Die Fledermaus”, “The Passenger”, “Pique Dame”, and “The Nose” at Bayerische Staatsoper. Additionally, he will embark on a European tour with the Bayerische Staatsorchester as an Assistant Conductor, while also serving as a conductor for the Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra.
Karimov conducted War and Peace as an assistant conductor, and presented “Mavra” and the chamber opera-ballet Renard at the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Festival. He also led “The Golden Cockerel” at the Opéra de Lyon and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. Furthermore, he was honoured to conduct the world premiere of Besogonov's “Fruit from the Bottom of the Vase” at the Diaghilev Festival.
Karimov's exceptional talent has earned him accolades and recognition. He was awarded a special prize at the ll International Antal Dorati Conducting Competition in Budapest in 2018. He received the title of laureate at the Almaty International Competition for Opera and Symphony Conductors in 2019. He has been an assistant conductor with esteemed maestros such as Vladimir Jurowski, Mikhail Jurowski, Daniele Rustioni, and Martyn Brabbins.
