"As musicians, we don’t just perform notes; we interpret history, emotions, and the human condition," Skryleva remarked. Read the full interview in Gewandhaus Magazin to explore her insights further.

In a recent interview with Gewandhaus Magazin, conductor Anna Skryleva reflected on the profound role of music in times of tragedy. The conversation took place shortly after the devastating attack at the Magdeburg Christmas market, an event that deeply affected the community and the cultural scene.

Skryleva, who was conducting a concert with the Magdeburg Philharmonic that evening, made the difficult decision to stop the performance after learning of the attack. "Music has the power to bring people together, but sometimes silence is just as powerful," she shared, recalling the moment of silence she led with the audience in tribute to the victims.

Beyond this, the interview touched on her approach to conducting narrative ballets like Romeo and Juliet, her perspective on Prokofiev and Shostakovich, and the upcoming production of The Queen of Spades at Oper Leipzig. Discussing Tchaikovsky’s work, she noted its deep psychological and social themes, emphasizing how relevant they remain today.
