Winning praise from the critics for his "vibrant"( New York Times) performances and a "beautiful, expressive voice" (Bachtrack), Ballentine has been recognized as a fast growing star.
Next season sees Ballentine return to the Metropolitant Opera to reprise his portrayal of Sportin' Life Porgy and Bess. “Ballentine’s acting was top class, making Sporting Life horrifically creepy" (David Karlin, Bachtrack)
Future and recent engagements include the title role in Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Cinncinati Opera; Miles Zegner in Proving Up with Lyric Opera of Chicago; Don José Carmen* Houston Grand Opera’s; Herr Vogelsang in a digital production of Mozart’s The Impresario. Houston Grand Opera in recital with Lawrence Brownlee; filmed recital from Seattle Opera’s Tagney Jones Hall. Judah in the world premiere of Castor and Patience at Cincinnati Opera.
Frederick is an alumni of the Cafritz Young Artists of Washington National Opera and the Los Angeles Opera’s Domingo Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program.
