We are excited to welcome conductor and composer Francesco Cilluffo to TACT’s roster for General Management. 

Francesco Cilluffo was recently appointed Principal Guest Conductor at the Wexford Festival Opera. Making a number of notable & acclaimed appearances in Wexford over the last seasons, Francesco Cilluffo will be leading the company’s production of Alfredo Catalani’s Edmea in October 2020. 

Among Francesco Cilluffo’s recent and past operatic engagements are Manon Lescaut at the Grange Festival, the double bill Margot la Rouge and Le Villi at Opera Holland Park, Aida for OperaLombardia, Falstaff at the Grange Festival, the double bill Leoni’s L’Oracolo and Giordano’s Mala vita at the Wexford Festival Opera, the double bill Cavalleria rusticana and La voix humaine (with Anna Caterina Antonacci) for OperaLombardia and in Bolzano, a world premiere of Miseria e Nobiltà by Marco Tutino at the Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa, Italiana in Algeri in Toulon, Mascagni’s Isabeau at Holland Park Opera, Alfano’s Risurrezione at the Wexford Festival Opera, US debut with Tosca at the Tulsa Opera, Roméo et Juliette, Bohème, Rigoletto, Elisir d’amore and Madama Butterfly at the New Israeli Opera, among others. 

Francesco conducted LaToscanini Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, I Pomeriggi Musicali, Bremer Philharmoniker, Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago, among others. 

Other notable concert engagements include Verdi Requiem with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at the Grange Festival, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde Festival della Valle d’Itria, Martina Franca, Verdi Galas at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and at the Festival Verdi in Parma, Duruflé’s and Mozart’s Requiem and Shostakovich’s Symphony no. 14 with the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, and concerts with the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago, Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, and ORT-Orchestra della Toscana for the opening of the Incontri in terra di Siena Festival.

As a composer, Cilluffo’s premieres include his opera Il caso Mortara (New York, 2010), choral cantata Voci di tenebra azzurra (Festival della Valle d’Itria, 2011) and a song cycle The Land to Life Again (Festival Incontri in Terra di Siena and UCLA, 2012).

Born in Turin in 1979, he received his conducting and composition degree from the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” and graduated in Musicology from Turin University. He continued his studies in London, where he was awarded Master in Composition (with distinction) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a PhD in Composition from the King’s College, London.
