Biography highlights

The German-born, Sorbian musician, Judith Kubitz, is currently conductor of Philharmonie Baden-Baden, one of Southern Germany´s longest-standing symphony orchestras.

 

She has established a reputation as a versatile and exuberant conductor of both operatic and orchestral repertoire and is frequently invited as a guest conductor worldwide.

 

Judith Kubitz graduated from Weimar Conservatory, Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris and The Royal Academy of Music London with Sir Colin Davis and Mariss Jansons.

 

She was awarded the 1999 Ricordi Prize for conducting and is a finalist of Donatella Flick International Conducting Competition.

 

Her numerous guest engagements comprise appearances with Staatsorchester Braunschweig, Bochumer Symphoniker, Kammerakademie Potsdam, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker, Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, Ensemble Kontraste, Bremer Philharmoniker, Staatsorchester Halle, and have brought her to Johannesburg, South Africa, Prague, Czech Republic, and Toride, Japan among others.

 

Judith Kubitz has conducted La Traviata (Komische Oper Berlin, Aalto Theater Essen), Die Zauberflöte (Komische Oper Berlin), Der fliegende Holländer and Cosi fan tutte (Konzert Theater Bern), Cavalleria rusticana, Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, La Forza del Destino, Prokofiev's Cinderella (Staatstheater Cottbus), Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, Tosca, La bohème, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake (Kassel), and has collaborated with directors Katharina Thalbach for The Magic Flute and with Volker Schlöndorff for Carmen at the Seefestspiele Berlin.

 

Next to the regular engagements with Philharmonie Baden-Baden, her recent and future plans include collaboration with Nicolas Altstaedt for the Cello Biennale Amsterdam International Festival, a live recording of the Oratorio Serbski rekwiem with Sinfonietta Dresden, the new Marc-Aurel Floros' opera Adriana at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg Festival, Germany, her South America debut with Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá, and a concert with the Symphony Orchestra of Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern. She will conduct the Philharmonie Baden-Baden on their China Tour in New Year 2017.
