Biography highlights

Felix Bender, born in 1986, had his first conducting lessons as a member of the famous Thomanerchor in Leipzig. He studied at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar with Gunter Kahlert, Nicolás Pasquet and Anthony Bramall. In addition he has been gaining experience as assistant to Heribert Beissel and to Herbert Blomstedt at the Gewandhaus Leipzig.

 

From 2010 to 2013 Felix Bender was engaged as Kapellmeister at the Nationaltheater Weimar conducting performances of L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Alcina, Béatrice et Bénédict, Faust, Die Zauberflöte and Die Hochzeit des Figaro as well as Eugen Onegin and Luigi Nono’s La fabbrica illuminata.

 

Since 2013 he served as First Kapellmeister at the Theater Chemnitz conducting premieres and regular performances of Don Giovanni, Bellini’s Norma, Don Carlos and Otello, La Cenerentola, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Lucia di Lammermoor, Werther, Hänsel und Gretel, Lehár’s Der Graf von Luxemburg and Adam’s Giselle.

 

On the concert platform he regularly appears with the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie and with the MDR-Sinfonieorchester Leipzig for radio recordings. As a guest conductor he has worked with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bremer Philharmoniker, Staatskapelle Halle, Philharmonische Orchester Ulm, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal and Leipziger Sinfonietta.

 

In the 16/17 season Felix Bender provisionally takes over the position of Music Director in Chemnitz conducting Turandot, Tannhäuser, Werther, Rinaldo and Parsifal amongst others.

Other highlights include his debuts at Leipzig Opera for Gounod’s Faust, at the Aalto Theatre in Essen with Mozart’s Zauberflöte and in concerts with the Staatskapelle Dresden.

 

Felix Bender was awarded the 1st prize and the audience prize at the 2008 Ring Award in Graz. In 2011 he was selected for the prestigious Dirigentenforum of the German Music Council including masterclasses with Pavel Baleff, Christian Ehwald, Peter Gülke, Kristjan Järvi, Johannes Kalitzke, Christian Kluttig and Marc Piollet. He was also chosen for the artist list of the „Maestros von morgen” program.
