‘Donald Thomson expressing effortless bass authority as the Landgraf.’

All the other male roles are cast from strength: Donald Thomson was an impressively authoritative Landgrave

- Jim Pritchard, Seen and Heard InternationalRead the article

The other male roles are cast from strength. The security and tone in Donald Thomson’s bass voice make him an outstanding Landgrave, and it would be good to hear more of him at the Royal Opera House and Coliseum

- Jim Pritchard, Seen and HeardRead the article

The parts of the Landgrave and the minnesingers were striking for the beauty of the young focused voices, so important to this ensemble opera. Donald Thomson’s darkly hued Landgrave was impressive

Donald Thomson’s stentorian bass gives the Landgrave of Thuringia a chilling edge

Bristol Tobacco Theatre - Don Giovanni - Il Commendatore - 2016/17

Speaking of depth and volume, Donald Thomson is a marvellously stentorian as the Commendatore; when he finally confronts Giovanni his dark, resonant sound is truly spine-tingling.

- Mike Whitton, Stage Talk MagazineRead the article

It is left to Donald Thomson’s Commendatore to make the most lasting impression as his bass rumbles through the theatre before dragging this libertine to hell.

- Kris Hallet, The Reviews HubRead the article

Saffron Opera Group - Siegfried - Fafner - 2016/17

At the opposite, lowest end of the scale was a third good surprise, Donald Thomson. Again, I have not heard a Fafner of such sonorous gravity since Josef Greindl at his best, and Donald Thomson had no need to force his voice downwards to plumb Fafner’s subterranean depths; they were his proper kingdom. He was left free to phrase the music, and give it feeling, the strange pathos of this vast and pitiless beast as it dies.

- Paul Dawson-Bowlings, Wagner News Magazine

Donald Thomson was a superb Fafner, with an unfaltering, penetrating bass of almost incredible richness.

- Charlotte Valori, Operissima WhispersRead the article

Donald Thomson the suitably fathomless Fafner.
